Hey Nomad, glad you’re here
Ever wanted to just pack your bags, book a one-way ticket, and see what’s out there? Let’s make it happen.
Why I Started Live Like A Nomad
My name’s Gus, and I’ve been a digital nomad for seven years.
Before I started nomading, I was just like you.
I’d go on day-long rabbit holes looking for visa rules and watching more travel vlogs than I could count. The more I’d learn, the more lost I’d feel with everything. I was just trying to figure it all out as I went along. Digital nomading wasn’t nearly as mainstream as it is today.
This is why I started Live Like A Nomad. My goal is to make it the go-to resource I and many other digital nomads wish they had when they first started out. I give you no-bullshit tips, guides, and stories that help you learn what you need to know.
No matter where you are in your nomad journey, you’ll find what you’re looking for right here.
My Story
As you already know, my name’s Gus, and I’ve been nomading since 2018. Thanks to this lifestyle, I’ve lived in 5 different countries and traveled to over 25 and counting. I’m currently based in sunny Spain while running my freelance writing business.
But before all of that, let’s take things back a few years. I wasn’t always the “world citizen” type who trekked with Hmong people in Sapa or chased deep-pink sunsets around Borneo.
I had a “normal” life. An early 20-something trying to figure his shit out. Always told by my family and society to follow the traditional path of:
- Get into a good school
- Find a cushy office job
- Work 40-50+ hours to move up the ranks
- Travel two weeks a year (anything more than that is a “rich person” thing)
- And maybe enjoy some freedom at 65 if you get there
I tried so hard to fit myself into that box for years. I changed majors over 10 times, job hopped every few months, even got myself a decent office job in the travel industry.
But no matter what I did, I always landed back to the same conclusion: “what the fuck am I doing with my life?”
I knew deep down that something wasn’t lining up. I was never meant to stay stuck in some shitty cubicle job and constantly fight for the elusive “American Dream.”
So I bit the bullet. I worked two jobs, saved up a few grand, got a one-way ticket to Thailand six months later, and the rest is history.
Since then I lived all over Vietnam for three years, traveled extensively around Asia, and got my digital nomad visa in Spain where I’m currently based.
I’m not going to lie, the road’s been bumpy. I’m definitely not some “guru” making 6 or 7 figures. I had to work in jobs or for companies where I was barely making enough money to support my dream.
But would I take it back?
Not for a second.
I wake up and work whenever (or wherever!) I want, spend my weekends swimming in some of the prettiest beaches in the world, and get to help you build a life you actually enjoy.
That would’ve never happened if I never walked away and took the plunge.
What Makes Live Like A Nomad Different?
If you’ve read a few similar blogs before, you’ve probably seen the fake positive, “this is amazing!” type content that glosses over the shitty parts.
And while yeah, digital nomading is transformative, reality isn’t always like that. I offer the raw, no-bullshit reality of digital nomads and destinations. No half-hearted truths, no magical stories.
I won’t promote something just because everyone’s talking about it on Tiktok or Insta. You’ll get the good, the bad, and the ugly af each time.
I promise to give you the truth and heaps of value-driven resources you can use in your day-to-day life.
Hopefully, my content helps you make your digital nomad dream happen.
If you’ve made this far, thanks so much for sticking with me. You’re awesome 😄
